The Caravan Fridge – A Great Addition To Any Mobile Home

In the world of fast lives and insurmountable workloads, a journey out of town comes as a welcome breather.  Traveling for countless hours to a destination of your choice removes all traces of work-related stress, which is why travelers find themselves reinvigorated after a journey.  To make travel quite convenient, some install a caravan fridge in their vehicles, letting them store snacks, goodies and ingredients for meals.  Dining, as a result, will be the least of your worries.

About Caravan Fridges

A caravan fridge is a portable refrigerator fitted in vehicles for storing decent amounts of food and drinks.  Some models come in the form of compact coolers or chillers, and there are those that replicate the features of mini fridges – chillers, freezer and all.  Given the limited space of vehicle interiors, the fridge is quite small, but has enough storage space to fit dozens of liters.  It comes in a variety of sizes and dimensions, conforming to different interior layouts.

Among the different types of vehicle fridges, the 3 way caravan fridge is perhaps the most popular.  It has three different power sources, as its name suggests: the vehicle engine, a 12v battery and LPG.  This is pretty convenient, since you can simply switch from one power source to another, whenever the situation calls for you to do so, thus the refrigeration of goods won’t be interrupted, keeping the stored items from getting spoilt.

Simpler and cheaper forms of the caravan fridge are also available. If you don’t really need to store a lot of items for your travels, you might as well settle for a 12v fridge.  It is often smaller than the 3 way caravan fridge, but still carries large storage space.  Depending on the fridge’s engine, you can store a variety of items – including frozen goods – or you could stow leftovers and easy-to-prepare meals.

Caravan Fridge Motors

Caravan fridges are generally run by two motor types: compressor and thermoelectric.  Compressor refrigerators caravan fridgehave enhanced cooling systems, so they can support freezers.  You can store chilled and frozen goods inside the fridge.  Thermoelectric refrigerators, on the other hand, can dole out a little warmth, allowing you to heat some of the stored goods.  They don’t have the power or the means to run freezers, so storage is strictly for chilling.

The compressor fridge is clearly the more popular of the two, but oftentimes the pricier option.  So, if your budget is quite limited and the storage of frozen stuff doesn’t really come as a necessity, you might as well get a thermoelectric unit.  It consumes less power than its compressor-based cousin, for longer periods of storage.  This works well with interstate travel.

Caravan Fridge Repairs

For fridges made by reputable brands, it is a norm for them to send out techs to repair damaged units.  When the cooling system is not performing up to speed, give the company a phone call, and inform them that your fridge needs repairs.  A technician will be sent to your location.  If your unit falls under the warranty period and you weren’t at fault for the damage, the repair fee will be waived.  This is one of the main reasons why people prefer reputable brands over generic items.

In the event that a tech cannot be sent, you can hire a repairman to fix the refrigerator.  He should be knowledgeable not only in handling electrical items; he should also be familiar with how the cooling systems of refrigerators work.  The mechanisms that power the device are all interconnected, so you can’t afford a screw up; otherwise you’ll be in for a string of repairs.

Caravan Fridge Parts

The parts of caravan fridges aren’t readily available on the market.  Normally, you’ll have to contact the fridge company or a dealer.  If you’re lucky, the parts are available at the store, but, in numerous cases, they will have to be ordered from the manufacturer.  It will take a few days before they are delivered to the branch.

You can also secure parts over the internet.  Retail and dealer websites sell all sorts of fridge parts.  You have the luxury of comparing the items before purchase.  Online forums are available for you to discuss the lowdown on the different fridge parts and the most reliable brands for each.
