Camping Fridge: Camping In Comfort
A camping trip, ideally, stimulates one’s instinct for survival as well as the unadulterated love for nature. However, as technology redefines certain endeavors – including camping – there are gadgets and devices that campers nowadays can’t live without. One of them is the camping fridge. It ensures campers that they’ll never run out of food during the trip, since it can fit a haul of goodies. In addition, it keeps your beverages cool, making you appreciate the outdoors even more.
The Deal with Camping Fridges
A camping fridge is a cooling storage tweaked to suit outdoor activities, like camping trips and safaris. It is slightly bigger than its standard 12v cousins, as a unit – on the average – holds up to 40 liters. Backpackers, as a result, can stow lots of food and beverages, which could last them for several days. It is ideal for long excursions, even trips to the beach if the cottages don’t provide any means of refrigeration.
Since some models are bulky, a lot of campers opt for smaller units – portable camping fridges. That way, they can move the fixture around, without entailing too much effort. It also fits the storage compartments of vehicles, seamlessly, given its size and contours. Plus, its exterior is thick and durable, allowing the camp fridge to withstand bumpy rides.
Kinds of Camping Fridges
Like with all refrigerators types, a camping fridge comes in different forms, some of which can be powered by items other than electricity. This gives the user more options for keeping the fridge battery charged or running, allowing your food to stay preserved for the entire duration of your outdoor adventure. Before, every camper asks himself the question “Do I really need a camping fridge?” The more appropriate query, in truth, is which among these fridges will work best to my advantage:
- Gas Camping Fridge – Gas induces a lot of power from motors, hence a gas-based refrigerator will have no trouble producing cool temperatures, below the freezing point even, for as long as its batteries are running. Gas is an abundant power source. So, keeping the fridge running is as easy as dropping by a gas station. Purchase an extra load of fuel when refueling your car. You’ll never know when it may come in
handy, when it comes to your fridge. - Portable Camping Fridge – This is the smaller and more compact version of standard camping fridges. It is easy to carry by hand, with its weight, and has enough storage space to hold a few dozen liters. If it has a compressor-based engine, you can store frozen goods and make ice, making an arduous trip to the outdoors quite convenient. Outdoor refrigerators are normally run by an electric engine, which can be charged by plugging the fridge into your car or an electric socket (with the use of a converter).
- Butane Camping Fridge – Butane, better known as lighter fluid, is often used for powering simple electronic devices. Remarkably, it is the power source of some camping fridges. Much energy is extracted from the fuel and transferred to the device mechanisms, allowing you to preserve food for a few days. The butane motor is often used for portable fridges.
- 2 Way Camping Fridge – The compressor or 2 way fridge is a popular item, since it is built for extended cooling. It is powerful enough to run a freezer, more so maintain cool temperatures inside the fridge, even in warm surroundings. The fridge runs on electricity or the energy used by your vehicle. You can charge it by hooking it up to your car or to an electric socket.
- 3 Way Camping Fridge – Outdoor enthusiasts prefer the 3 way camping fridge over other types of standard-sized fridges for very obvious reasons. It has several power sources, so you won’t have any trouble keeping the motor running or the battery charged. Apart from electricity/vehicle battery, other
possible sources of power are gas, butane, and propane. It is a medium sized fridge – more often than not smaller than the compressor fridge – so porting it around is relatively simple. - Camping Fridge Freezer – Portable freezers are quite handy. You can create ice from water and store frozen products, like meat and ice cream. It is powered by a 12v/240v engine, which is simple to charge and can store decent amounts of energy.
Other types of portable fridges for camping, often deviations of the general types, have been developed. Just check out the branches and websites of manufacturers, to get the latest scoop.
